Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Tony Aubynn has urged Ghanaians to lower expectations ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

According to him, it is impossible for the Black Stars to go to the AFCON and win it with the current state of the national team.

He proposes that Ghana needs to start rebuilding by following the likes of Senegal and Morocco to get a stronger national team that can compete.

“We have talented players in Europe and in our local league but I wonder if we have a team. What we need to do as a country is to lower our expectations as Ghanaians and then build from the base.

“If we still believe we are good enough to beat Brazil or win Afcon at this level of our team, then we will be deceiving ourselves,” Dr. Tony Aubynn said in an interview with Akoma FM.

He continued, “If we win it's fine but we need to build just as Senegal, Morocco, and the rest have done in recent years now.

“The truth is that we need to tone down our expectations and rebuild strongly for the future.”

Ghana is one match away from qualifying for the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast early next year.

The Black Stars must first beat the Central African Republic in September to secure qualification for the tournament.
