Ghana coach Chris Hughton has opened up on the Black Stars team spirited ahead of their international friendly game against the United States of America.
The West African powerhouse will lock horns with the US national team on Tuesday at Geodis Park in Nashville as the team prepare for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers and Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be staged in Ivory Coast in January 2024.
Hughton’s outfit succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte last Saturday.
And ahead of the USA clash, the former Premier League manager insists there is nothing wrong with team spirit despite falling short to Mexico.
“One thing I can guarantee you is that there is nothing wrong with the spirit in the team. I have been involved for a period of time now, first as a Technical Advisor and obviously since March as head coach. And I would to say that right through the World Cup and into the camps we have had. The spirit amongst the team has always been very good”
“Yes, if we look at the cohesion in the team, it’s about trying to get these right balances and in the national level it can be difficult because you can be five, six players short in one camp than you are in a different camp”
“And it’s also determining a way of play. In the last couple of games, we have played a different system to try to solve some of the problems that we feel we have had in creating chances. But it’s my role as head coach and the coaches that we have to continue to work with these players to get the right balances and the right formulas to get the performances that we want” he said.
Ghana will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they face the USA after defeat to Mexico.
