Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has urged Asamoah Gyan to contribute in raising the next generation of legends for the country following his retirement from football.

On Tuesday, Gyan announced his retirement from football at the 30th Afreximbank Annual Meeting held at the Accra International Conference Centre.

In a statement released by Gyan, he explained that he made the decision to retire because he felt it was the right time. Reflecting on his illustrious career, Gyan expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had and the support he received throughout the years.

Following the news of Gyan’s retirement, Appiah, a fellow Ghanaian legend has advised the former striker not to leave the scene entirely but to help raise the next generation of talents for the country.

“Up to the twilight of your career till your retirement there’s one thing I’ve seen you exhibit, PASSION”

“I want you to know that it is only an end to a chapter. You have more to contribute to raising the next generation of legends. A career well-lived bro... Wish you well” he tweeted.

With 51 goals, he holds the record for the most goals scored by a Ghanaian player and is the country's second most-capped player.

Both Appiah and Gyan shared the pitch together during their days with the Black Stars.
