A member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, Dr. Tony Aubynn has noted that the standard of the Ghana Premier League is not as bad as people say.

Speaking to Akoma FM in an interview, the chairman of the Black Galaxies management committee team said although the local league is not the best, it is doing well.

“I do not agree with people saying the league (GPL) standard is low. Yes it's not up to the level we expect but with time we will gradually get there.

“I watched the finals of the MTN FA Cup and you can testify how beautiful the said game was. When Kotoko are playing against Hearts or Medeama, clearly the standard is not that bad,” Dr. Tony Aubynn said.

The Ghana FA Exco continued, “Yes I agree we are not up there, as compared to what we used to see during Opoku Afriyie's time but I will never accept a total condemnation of our league. Like I said earlier, gradually we are getting there.”

The new Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to commence on the weekend of September 9 to 11, 2022.
