The Ministry of Youth and Sports has extended its congratulations to Ghana's U-23 national team, the Black Meteors, for qualifying for this year's U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco.
The Black Meteors secured their qualification after a 1-0 win against Algeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday afternoon.
The Sports Ministry's official Twitter handle praised the team's performance, saying "Congratulations, Black Meteors." The tweet was shared shortly after the team's hard-fought victory over Algeria, which sealed their place in the upcoming tournament.
The Black Meteors were dominant throughout the match, with their attacking prowess on full display from the first whistle. They piled pressure on Algeria and created several chances before ultimately scoring the decisive goal in the 12th minute.
Winger Ernest Nuamah provided an impressive assist, lifting a lobbed cross into the far post, and young talent Abdul Fatawu Issahaku rose to the occasion, heading the ball powerfully past the Algeria goalkeeper and rushing defenders.
Despite failing to convert some decent chances that came their way, the Black Meteors held on to pick up the win and secure their place at the tournament.
The U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament is set to take place in Morocco later this year.
