Southampton's pursuit of Joseph Paintsil took a bad turn, prompting criticism from Genk's technical director Dimitri de Conde.

The Belgian club's official expressed concerns about the extent of Southampton's efforts to secure the talented player, raising questions about the transfer dealings between the two clubs.

This summer, the Black Stars winger's transfer from the Belgian Jupiler Pro League squad to Southampton in the English Championship was highly reported.

The 25-year-old Paintsil has played 10 games this season in all competitions scoring a goal and assisting three. However, the deal fell through, and the transfer was scrapped.

De Conde mentioned that a planned deal between Paintsil and Paul Onuachu failed during an interview with Het Belang van Limburg.

"I immediately knew that it would be almost impossible to involve Paintsil in an exchange deal with Onuachu but Southampton kept pushing until they went a step too far for me,” Conde said.

Genk is 6th on the league table with 11 points after six games.
