Ghanaian assistant referee, Patrick Papala has lost his FIFA badge just a week after he was handed a one-year ban.

The match review panel of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) last week banned the referee for 1 year for denying Accra Hearts of Oak a descent and a legitimate goal in the game against Real Tamale United in the match-day-33 encounter of the 2022/23 season which was played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

According to the decision of the match review panel of the GFA, the decision by Assistant Referee-1 (Patrick Papala) of the said game to deny Hearts the equalizer from Yaw Amankwah Baafi in the 90th minutes was absolutely a wrong call on his part.

His defense that the player was in an offside position was thrown out as video evidence showed that the goalscorer was on-side.

The referee who was not happy with the ban filed an appeal.

Even before the verdict on the appeal, the Ghana FA has stripped him of his FIFA badge secured in 2019.
