Former Black Stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has criticized the decision of over-reliance on foreign-based players while the local game is still active and can't produce quality players in recent times.

His comments come following Black Meteors' early exit at the ongoing 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

According to him, it is a wrong decision to sideline the local players while the top flight is still ongoing.

He added that it is the reason why the youth teams are struggling.

The former Asante Kotoko and Udinese Calcio midfielder called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to stand up against this and try as hard as they could to find measures to curb the danger our football could land in.

"The GFA needs to organize an emergency meeting tomorrow and take stock of wats happening. Where our football is heading is dangerous," the U-20 World Cup winner told Joy FM.

"How can we be so over-reliant on foreign-born and foreign-based players at youth level? If our local league can't provide players for our youth football, then we are in serious trouble," he added.

Agyemang Badu, 32, enjoyed an incredible nine-year spell in the Black Stars with over 70 international appearances, boasting of five AFCON appearances and one at the World Cup which was 2014 in Brazil.
