French giants Olympique Marseille has settled on former Ivory Coast coach Jean-Linus Gasset as their new head coach.
Gasset, who was relieved off his duties during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament joins Marseille on a short-term deal following the sacking of Italian Gennaro Gattuso, who failed to live up to expectations.
He penned a four-months contract and is expected to take charge of the club until the end of the 2023/23 season.
Gasset’s first task is on Thursday against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League and he will be aiming for a flying start to life at the club.
His primary objectives will include advancing in the Europa League and rejuvenating the team's league performance, which has veered significantly off track, leaving them eight points adrift of European qualification spots.
Gasset becomes Marseilles fourth manager in the ongoing campaign, having had spells with Marcelino, Jacques Abardonado, and Gattuso.
He was shown the exit door by the Ivorian Football Federation after heavy defeat against Equatorial Guinea in their last group game at the AFCON.
His sacking paid off as the Elephant defied all odds to clinch the title on home soil after beating Nigeria in the final under Emerse Fae.
