Former Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has revealed his choice for the best player he ever shared the pitch with: his former teammate and English midfielder Frank Lampard.

The duo, who played together at English Premier League side Chelsea, formed a formidable partnership that contributed to the club's success in various competitions.

The won many titles including the UEFA Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and the Football League Cup.

Essien, who joined Chelsea in 2005 from Olympique Marseille, and Lampard, who had been with the London club since 2001 after his move from West Ham, played alongside each other until the 2013/2014 season when both players bid farewell to Chelsea.

In a recent interview with Goal Africa, Essien expressed his admiration for all his teammates but ultimately singled out Lampard as the standout player.

"Everybody is my teammate. I love all my teammates; I mean it's hard to choose. But I would go for Frank Lampard. I mean, being a midfielder that scores a lot of goals every season is quite amazing."

Now 40 years old, Essien enjoyed a successful playing career that included spells at renowned European clubs such as Bastia, Lyon, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Panathinaikos, Persib Bandung, and Sabail, where he ultimately hung up his boots.
