Anderlecht's Majeed Ashimeru has expressed his elation after scoring his maiden goal in a European club competition.
The 25-year-old Ghana midfielder found the back of the net in Anderlecht's 2-0 triumph over AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa Conference League quarterfinals on Thursday night.
Having previously appeared in 20 European games with Red Bull Salzburg and his current side, Ashimeru was thrilled to have scored in the knockout rounds.
“I have been waiting a long time for this and I think it was the right moment to score my first in Europe,” the midfielder told 3FM.
“When the ball was coming [after Francis Amuzu’s cross], I knew if I took it on the first time it might not go [as I want].
“So I just took a touch and the touch was really good…[leading to the goal]. It feels really great.”
With this goal, Ashimeru's tally for Anderlecht this season is three in all competitions. They are currently vying for a place in the semifinals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
