Kenya President William Ruto led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Talanta Sports City Stadium on Friday, March 1st, marking a significant step in Kenya's preparations to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The event, held at the Jamhuri grounds on Ngong Road, was attended by dignitaries and sports officials.

The stadium, boasting a capacity of 60,000 seats, is poised to become a masterpiece venue for the prestigious continental tournament.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, accompanied by Principal Secretary Peter Tum and other officials, inspected the site on Tuesday, underlining the government's commitment to delivering a world-class sporting facility.

The approval for the construction project came from the Kenyan Cabinet in October 2023, solidifying Kenya's dedication to hosting the 38th edition of AFCON.

The stadium will be equipped with a standard athletics track, a standard football field, and a shared rugby field.

With construction underway, anticipation builds as Kenya gears up to welcome teams and fans from across Africa to the Talanta Sports City Stadium in 2027.
