Turkey-based defender Jerome Opoku is eagerly anticipating more opportunities to represent Ghana following his second international appearance against Nigeria last Friday.
Hailing from London, Opoku, currently on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir, showcased his skills during Ghana's 2-1 defeat, although his performance was marred by a red card.
Opoku's international debut came in a 4-0 loss to the United States of America in October 2023 when he was called up as a late replacement for Alexander Djiku.
Reflecting on his debut, Opoku remarked, "The game against the USA wasn't ideal, especially as it was my first match. Our team performance didn't aid me much, and I know I could have performed better. However, compared to that match, I see today's game as a stepping stone for improvement. I appreciate the coach's style, which aligns with my own preference for playing football rather than resorting to long balls. Under this coach, I believe I can demonstrate the quality of my game."
Opoku credited his performance against Nigeria to the position he played, emphasizing the importance of tactical alignment for him to excel.
Expressing his ambitions, Opoku stated, "I aim to continue working hard and making significant contributions to the national team. Whenever I step onto the pitch, I strive to exhibit my skills and contribute positively to the team's success. My goal is to earn more caps for Ghana and evolve as both an individual player and as part of the team."
Ghana's upcoming friendly against Uganda's Crane on Tuesday, March 26, at the Stade de Marrakesh presents another opportunity for Opoku to further establish himself on the international stage.
