Aaron Opoku has stated that he doesn't expect to receive a negative reception when he returns to HSV after signing for Kaiserslautern.

The winger received a five-game ban before joining FC Kaiserslautern at the end of the transfer window.

"After my suspension from the five games was clear, I soon received many messages that in the event of a move to Kaiserslautern I would be eligible to play again in the Volksparkstadion of all places. It can't be a coincidence," Opoku said in an interview with Sport1.

"I have a long and, from my point of view, positive past in Hamburg and I therefore assume that I will be received in the same way. I've only ever wanted the best for HSV and I wish the club only the best. That's the club I grew up with," he added.

Born in Hamburg, he started playing football with the Hamburger Turnerschaft before moving to the youth academy at HSV at the age of twelve.

After he had gone through all the youth teams at Rothosen, he signed his first professional contract with HSV in the summer of 2018.

In order to gain more match practice, he was loaned out to FC Hansa Rostock, SSV Jahn Regensburg and VfL Osnabrück for the past three seasons.

Before joining Kaiserslautern, he played in three second division games for Hamburger SV and in the first round of the DFB Cup.
