In a costly turn of events, the Ghana Football Association (GFA)'s Communicationa Director has disclosed the Black Stars racked up a staggering $80,000 bill due to yellow card accumulations during the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar.

Despite a spirited effort, Ghana's World Cup journey was cut short at the group stage.

The team's performance saw them secure a single victory against South Korea, but losses to Portugal and Uruguay left them unable to advance to the knockout rounds.

Communications Director of the GFA, Henry Asante Twum, disclosed in an interview with Angel TV that the association had to pay a hefty $10,000 for every yellow card issued to players during the tournament.

“We paid $80,000 for yellow cards acquisition at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar."

This resulted in a total of eight yellow cards for the Black Stars, contributing to the significant financial burden borne by the GFA.

Players like Alidu Seidu, who received two cautions, as well as Kamaldeen Sulemana, Daniel Amartey, Tariq Lamptey, Inaki Williams, Andre Ayew, and Mohammed Kudus, each accumulating one yellow card, were among those responsible for the costly disciplinary actions.
