Ghana midfielder Abu Francis has suffered a meniscus tear and is expected to be out for a lengthy period.
The 22-year-old Cercle Brugge player sustained a meniscus tear during a Belgium Pro League game against Standard Liege on August 19.
The Right to Dream Academy graduate was subbed off just nine minutes into the game, with Hannes van der Bruggen replacing him.
The game was played on August 19 in round four of the Belgium Jupiler Pro League, which Cercle Brugge eventually won 1-0 against Standard Liege.
A club statement after the game confirmed it was a meniscus tear and is expected to be out for as long as six months.
The club wished Abu Francis well during his period of rehabilitation after a successful surgery.
“Abu Francis suffered a meniscus tear last Saturday and will be sidelined for about 6 months,” the club said in a statement.
“A setback, especially for Abu Francis himself. The entire Cercle family wishes Abu courage and success during his rehabilitation.”
