Ghana football legend Dan Owusu has called on Black Stars coach Chris Hughton to work on his strikers in order to get the best out of them.

Since the exclusion of Asamoah Gyan from the Black Stars in 2019, Ghana has struggled in scoring goals in friendlies, qualifiers and in major tournaments.

The team has experimented with several strikers but none of them has been able to make the position his own.

Ghana secured four points from two games under Chris Hughton after a win and draw in both legs against Angola during the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.

The Black Stars left it late at the Baba Yara Stadium when Antoine Semenyo climbed off the bench to score the match-winner to propel Ghana to victory over the Palancas Negras.

In the reverse fixture in Luanda, the four-time African Champions came from behind to draw against Angola.

In both legs, the Black Stars were unable to score more than a goal and Dan Owusu, who is unhappy about the teams one goal project has called on the Hughton to work on the attackers.

Speaking in interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Ghana Premier League goal king expressed displeasure about the one-goal project under Hughton and has therefore charged the trainer to work on the strikers.

“In football, there are means to an end, that is to score goals and if you are unable to score, you cannot progress. Under Hughton, the team has not been banging in more goals and it is a problem”

“In the two games in charge, the team has scored two goals (one in each game), they need to work on the strikers on how to score the goals. Inaki Williams is not a bad striker, he has been scoring for his club but struggling with Ghana, so we need to work on him and other strikers” he said.
