The head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton has stressed that he is not listening to the public debate on Andre Ayew after naming him in his 25-man squad for the game against the Central African Republic.

Ghana takes on the Central African Republic this week in the final game in the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Since naming Andre Ayew in his squad for the game, many Ghanaians have criticised coach Chris Hughton, demanding an explanation as to why he has included a player who is without a club in his squad.

But speaking to Asaase Radio, Coach Chris Hughton has made a bold statement, insisting that he is not paying attention to any perception in the public.

“Growing perception is not something that means too much to my point of view as the head coach. It’s about the squad that I want and the reason for each player to be in the squad. What is the perception outside? I don’t know. This is not my concern.

“What I have to do is to pick a squad that is made up of young exciting players and much more experienced players,” Coach Chris Hughton stressed.

The Ghana coach added, “There will always be, in the general public, a lot of debate about who should be in the squad and who shouldn’t.

“We are knowledgeable about the amount games that he has played and we also know what he means to the squad. He is our captain; I know what he gives the squad.”

Ghana hosts the Central African Republic on Thursday, September 7. The game will kick off at 16:00 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
