Ghana’s Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has bemoaned the slump of Ghanaian clubs in Africa inter-club competitions whiles urging leadership of the clubs to invest in order to regain their prominence in Africa.

The statement was made during the GFA 29th Ordinary Congress on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Sciences and Technology (KNUST).

Ghanaian clubs including giants Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have failed to make a meaningful impact in both the CAF Champions League and the Confederations.

And according to the Minister, it is about time the Ghana FA and club owners invest in all aspect of the game to attract fans to the league centres and also regain their prominence in African club competition.

“Our Premier League clubs have lost their competitive edge in Africa, in the time to reclaim our position among the African best, the FA, club owners, club administrators, and key stakeholders must invest in all aspect of the game to attract more fans into our league centres and regain our prominence in African club competition"

"Let us develop strategies to make our domestic league more attractive and competitive and financially sustainable” he said.
