Former technical director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Francis Oti-Akenteng, has criticized the GFA's decision to dismiss Chris Hughton without waiting for the technical report following Ghana's disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.

Hughton, a seasoned Premier League manager, was relieved of his duties after Ghana's dismal showing in the competition, where they failed to advance past the group stage, finishing at the bottom of Group B despite high expectations of contending for their fifth continental title.

The Black Stars, who were aiming to win their fifth continental title managed only two draws and suffered a defeat, marking their second consecutive early exit from the tournament.

Oti-Akenteng believes that the GFA should have exercised patience and reviewed the technical report before making a decision on Hughton and the coaching staff's future.

In an interview with Skyy Power FM, Oti-Akenteng stated, "The Ghana Football Association (GFA) should not have sacked former Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton, and the technical team after the Africa Cup of Nations. They should have waited for their report to know why the team did not perform."

Meanwhile, a five-member search committee appointed to recommend a new coach has submitted their report to the GFA Executive Council.

Reports from various media outlets suggest that Otto Addo, a former Black Stars coach, is the frontrunner to replace Hughton.
