The leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have held a meeting with government officials over the future of Chris Hughton.

The former Premier League boss, who replaced Otto Addo earlier this year on a 21-month deal has come under pressure following his recent poor performance.

After going five games unbeaten, Hughton suffered back-to-back defeats against Mexico and USA in international friendly games in October.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat against the CONCACAF champions before a humiliating 4-0 defeat to the US Men's national team.

With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers coming up this month, the country's football governing body held a meeting with government officials imploring them to permit them to let Chris Hughton to leave his role.

According to Bright Kankam Boadu of Pure FM, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are entirely not happy with the performance of the team hence their decision to let the 64-year-old leave his role.

“There have been meetings. There have been a number of meetings at the Jubilee House to find a way for Chris Hughton to step aside for someone else to coach the Black Stars," he added.

"Some people also maintain that Chris Hughton should continue to be at post.,” he added.

The Black Stars will host Madagascar at the Baba Yara Stadium on November 17 before travelling to face Comoros on November 21 in the first two games in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars after the games will prepare for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) slated to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.
