Former Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong is defiant about the Black Stars chances of clinching the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The West African powerhouse are without a major silverware since 1982, and according to Frimpong, the chances of Ghana winning the title Ivory Coasts is high.
The continental showpiece will commence on Saturday, January 13 through to February 11, 2024, where 24 countries including the Black Stars will battle it out for the covetous trophy.
Ghana arrived in Ivory Coast on Wednesday and will open their AFCON account against Cape Verde on Sunday.
“Our chances of winning the AFCON trophy is high. You cannot underrate any team in tournament like this. I can see the technical team are blending the young ones with the experienced players so I have the confidence Black Stars can make impact in Ivory Coast” he told Kessben FM monitored by Footballghana.com.
The West Africa powerhouse hopes to end the 42-year continental trophy in neighbouring country this time.
Ghana have a history of success in the AFCON, having won the title four times, most recently in 1982. However, they have experienced defeat in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, as well as a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.
