Former Dutch striker Pierre van Hooijdonk who was known for whipping in curling free kicks during his playing days has Brian Brobbey has all the qualities to succeed at Ajax and also become a key striker for the Dutch national side.
Discussing Brobbey's fitness level criticism van Hooijdonk said the striker played more minutes during the Dutch Cup final and he didn't learn how to do that in two weeks.
"If you keep telling him that he's not fit enough, you're also making fun of a boy like that. Everyone knows what Brobbey can and cannot do. All over the world, strikers often don't play 90 minutes. Also because they have to endure a lot. That he has to is nonsense. And now he can suddenly go full house for 120 minutes against PSV. Well, he really didn't learn that in two weeks, you know," he said
Pierre van Hooijdonk urged Ajax coach John Heitinga to leave Brobbey alone because he gives the team depth within the line.
"Because he is so fast and strong, he was very annoying for the defenders of PSV and dangerous for Ajax. The ball on the post, the ball in front. You can see from those running actions that he is a real striker," says the former striker
"Leave Brobbey alone. In my eyes he should always play. Otherwise Ajax will have too many attackers who want the ball in their feet and the team will be too predictable,"
Pierre van Hooijdonk tipped Brobbey to become a key striker for the Dutch national team.
"Brobbey has a very good chance of becoming the striker of the Netherlands. There aren't that many flavors either. I think Thijs Dallinga is more refined, but Brobbey has a huge advantage in his strong stature,"
"Koeman will also have seen his performance. And that must have done him good. Brobbey kept going, even in overtime, which he supposedly couldn't. I therefore hope that this match will be a breakthrough for him,"
