In a stern response to the security lapse at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, FIFA has imposed a fine of 5,000 Swiss Francs on Ghana for violations of Articles 17 & 58 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code 2023 Edition.
The Disciplinary Committee, in a decisive move, deemed Ghana responsible for the breach that occurred after the FIFA World Cup qualifier clash between Ghana and Madagascar on Friday, November 17, 2023.
The disciplinary action comes in the wake of an intruder trespassing onto the pitch post-match, a blatant violation that compelled FIFA to invoke sanctions. Further worsening the situation in the stadium, an unspecified number of unapproved and unaccredited individuals infiltrated the inner perimeter, with some even joining the players in their celebration of Inaki Williams's match-winning goal in the closing stages of the game.
Despite the reprimand, FIFA commended the swift response of the security services in managing the situation. Acknowledging their proactive measures, FIFA emphasized the importance of stringent security protocols to safeguard the integrity of football events.
