The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is hoping to persuade Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer to switch international allegiance from Germany to the Black Stars. Footballghana understands.
The 20-year-old joins a long list of foreign-based Ghanaian players including Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah, Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey and others to be linked to a possible switch to the west African country in recent weeks ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Konigsdorffer currently plays for Hamburg SV, having joined them from Dynamo Dresden on a four-year contract for a fee of €1.2 million.
He scored first goal in his first game for Hamburg against Hadjuk Split before registering an assist in the 4-3 victory over Aris Thessaloniki.
Last season, he made 34 appearances across all competitions, netted five goals and provided five assists as the club finished 16th before losing to FC Kaiserslautern in the relegation play-off, and were therefore relegated to the 3. Liga.
His impressive display attracted interest from the GFA and Black Stars coach Otto Addo is convinced the highly-rated youngster can help the team in the future.
The 47-year-old has already held talks with the forward and he expected to make a decision in coming weeks.
Königsdörffer has represented Germany at youth levels and remains eligible to play for Ghana.
He was born in Berlin to a Ghanaian father and a German mother.
Ghana have been placed in Group H together with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea for the World Cup which is scheduled for November 21 to December 18 in Qatar.
