Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Yussif Chibsah, has shared an inspiring tale from his formative years, revealing that he used to combine hawking with playing football alongside former Black Stars player, Laryea Kingston.

In an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Chibsah recounted the challenges he faced in pursuing his passion for football while assisting his mother with her trading business.

Chibsah's mother, a trader by profession, was initially opposed to his dual pursuits of hawking and playing football.

Undeterred by her disapproval, the determined young talent managed to find a balance between his responsibilities and his love for the beautiful game.

He would hawk goods such as cassava, plantains, and other items, all the while organizing and participating in football matches with Laryea Kingston, who also shared a similar passion for the sport.

"I sold Cassava, plantain, and the like. Laryea Kingston will tell you. I would pack what I'm selling somewhere to go and play football. Laryea and I used to organise matches. Laryea is from a football family. They are about seven and they all played football.

"So I use to play with him. When I'm done then I get back to hawking. I had my customers, so (everything goes) fast, fast."

Yussif Chibsah eventually rose to prominence in Ghanaian football, making a name for himself while playing for clubs like King Faisal and Asante Kotoko.

Moreover, Chibsah's dedication to the sport earned him opportunities to represent Ghana at various levels in his career. A notable milestone in his journey was captaining Ghana's U-23 team during the Olympics Games in 2004.
