Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam have signed Avery Appiah, a Ghanaian youngster born in the Netherlands, to his first professional contract. The 17-year-old midfielder's contract will run until 2025.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Ajax confirmed the signing of two youth players, including Appiah. "Avery Appiah, a 17-year-old midfielder, was born on April 2, 2006, in Zoetermeer, and is also part of the Ajax O17 squad.

"He joined the Ajax youth academy in the summer of 2020 after starting his training at Sparta and then moving to the Feyenoord youth academy."

Appiah has made six appearances in the 2022/23 U17 Divisie 1 Spring, scoring one goal. Overall, he has played 33 times for the Ajax U17 and U18 teams, scoring five goals and providing three assists.

The youngster has represented the Netherlands U17 team five times, scoring a goal, but he is still eligible to play for Ghana. With his new contract, Appiah will look to continue his development at Ajax and make a push towards earning a spot on the senior team in the near future.
