Former Ghana midfielder, Derek Boateng has called on the entire country to support new Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton.

The former Premier League manager has been awarded a 21-months contract as announced by the Ghana Football Association [GFA].

Hughton replaced Otto Addo who left his role following Ghana's early exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

However, Boateng, who featured at the 2010 Mundial in South Africa Cup says the 64-year-old needs support to be able to perform as the coach of the national team.

"Someone like Chris Hughton, he is half Ghanaian and British so we should support him to do the job," he told Asempa FM.

Hughton defeated Angola in his first game in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers in Kumasi at the Baba Yara.

The Black Stars recorded a 1-1 drawn game against Angola in the reverse game in Luanda. Ghana sit top of Group E with eight points after four games.
