Crystal Palace is reportedly eyeing Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom as the Eagles seek a long-term replacement for Ghana international Jordan Ayew, who has signed a new one year deal with the club, according to the Athletic.

TEAMtalk reports that Palace is preparing to make a bid for the 27-year-old forward, who is open to joining the London-based club regardless of Middlesbrough's promotion status.

Palace's current strikers Odsonne Edouard and Jean-Philippe Mateta have had an underwhelming season, scoring only six goals between them in this season's Premier League.

Moreover, the future of Wilfried Zaha remains uncertain, with Arsenal and Chelsea showing interest in the Ivorian winger.

Akpom, who has one year left on his contract with Middlesbrough, has been in fine form this season, scoring 28 goals so far and leading the Championship's top scorer race.

He was also recently named the Championship Player of the Season, which has strengthened Boro's bargaining power.

However, Palace is not the only club interested in the London-born Super Eagles prospect. Bundesliga clubs Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach are also said to be interested in Akpom's services.
