Tanzanian giants Young Africans were unable to make their home advantage count after suffering defeat to USM Alger in the CAF Confederations Cup first leg final.

The Algerian side edged Young Africans 2-1 to take first leg advantage in the 2022/23 Confederations Cup.

USM Alger shot into the lead at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Sunday through Aymen Mahious, who found the back of the net in the 32nd minute as the visitors went to recess with a one goal advantage.

After the break, the host fought back to restore parity in the 82nd minute mark through Fiston Mayele but Islam Merili scored to seal victory for USM Alger six minutes to full time.

Ghanaian forward Bernard Morrison will hope his Young African outfit will turn things around to clinch the title in Algeria.

The reverse fixture will take place at the Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 in Algeria on Saturday, June 3, 2023.
