The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Asante Kotoko has decided to retain young midfielder Clinton Opoku, despite his recent relegation to the surplus list by the club's head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum.
20-year-old Opoku arrived at the club two years ago from the now-defunct Phar Rangers FC, and his future with the Porcupine Warriors was cast into doubt when he was deemed "surplus to requirements" by the new technical team under Ogum.
However, a source within the club has confirmed to Kickgh.com that the IMC has intervened and rejected the coach's plea to terminate Opoku's contract.
Instead, they are considering a loan move for the talented player, allowing him to continue his development elsewhere.
Opoku's contract with Asante Kotoko is set to run until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
Opoku's journey with Asante Kotoko has been marred by unfortunate injuries, which sidelined him for a considerable period, eventually leading to knee surgery.
These setbacks have limited his opportunities on the field, with the young midfielder making just six league appearances for the Kumasi-based team.
Currently, Prosper Narteh Ogum's team is stationed in Beposo for a rigorous pre-season training regimen, gearing up for the upcoming 2023/24 season.
