Former Ghana international, Yusif Chibsah has called on the head coach of the Black Star, Chris Hughton to build a team that can be relied on for years.
The former Premier League manager having signed a 21-month deal in March played his first two games against Angola in back-to-back games in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers in the matchday three and four games.
The team return to action next month for the matchday five game against Madagascar before hosting Central Africa Republic (CAR) in the final round of qualifiers in September later this year.
However, Chibsah charged the technical team to build the team around the current young players ahead of the upcoming assignments in June & September.
“We expect a win from the two games, that is the expectation of most Ghanaians, but some of us we look beyond the win," he told Citi Sports.
“We just want to see a formidable team, a team that we can rely on for years, not just winning. It is actually important to win games, that is what Ghanaians expect from the Coach.
“We want to see Chris Hughton building us a formidable team, which we can rely on for years, two, three years.
“Majority of the current squad are young players, about 70-80 per cent are young, talking about the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Osman Bukari, and co.
“Let’s build the team around these players and let’s lay a foundation that can see them play together for the next three or four years," he added.
The Black Stars will take on Madagascar on June 18 before hosting CAR on September 4.
The Black Stars had an average age of 24 years and 7 months for the 2022 World Cup in QATAR, ranked as the youngest team in the tournament ahead of the United States of America (25 years and 2 months) and Ecuador (25 years and 6 months).
Chris Hughton will be hoping to guide the four-time Afcon Champion to the next edition of the AFCON in January next year.
Ghana sits at the summit of Group E with 8 points and will wrap up the qualification series against the Central African Republic later in September.
