In a recent assessment, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspection team delivered a sobering verdict on the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Despite its local importance, the facility has been found lacking in crucial aspects necessary to meet international sporting standards.

Using the Cape Coast Stadium for any CAF/FIFA men's senior national teams tournament or the group stage of the CAF interclub competitions 2023–24 is officially forbidden.

Medeama has been asked to choose a location for the group stage and knockout stages of the CAF inter-club championships 2023–24 from among the venues that have been authorized by CAF.

The inspection report came to the conclusion that the stadium has to be renovated in certain places to comply with CAF regulations. All things considered, this means that the stadium needs to be updated to meet the standards and criteria of a modern football stadium.

The only stadium in the country that satisfies the qualifications to hold CAF senior international matches is Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Medeama has been drawn into Group D of the competition, where they will play Algerian champions CR Belouizdad, Tanzanian powerhouses Young Africans, and reigning winners Al Ahly SC.
