Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has announced that the CAF Super Cup will be played in Rabat, Morocco on Saturday, September 10, 2022.
This is the first time Rabat will be hosting the CAF Super Cup final.
The CAF Super Cup competition is played between the winner of the Champions League and Confederations Cup.
However, this year’s Super Cup Final will be played between Morocco’s RS Berkane (Confederations Cup winner) and Wydad Athletic Club (Champions League winner) at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
It is Morocco’s sixth final at the TotalEnergies Super Cup and the fourth final for the Casablanca-based football club Wydad AC.
In May, Wydad won its third CAF Champions League title after beating Egypt’s Al Ahly 2-0 in a tense game at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Wydad is yet again preparing for another much-anticipated final only a few weeks after the departure of its former coach Walid Regragui who was recently appointed head coach of the Moroccan national team.
Casablanca, Morocco’s economic hub, has hosted the African Super Cup Final on three occasions, placing it second to Cairo which hosted a total of six finals over the past years.
With less than five days left until the final, the game will mark the second time two teams from the same country face each other in the continental tournament.
The first occasion was in January 1994 in Johannesburg, South Africa, when the Egyptian giants Zamalek and Al Ahly played each other.
