The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after concluding its inspection of the Cape Coast Stadium.
In the letter to the GFA, CAF said it could not give approval for the Stadium to be used for any of its inter-club competitions.
The letter said after the inspection, the Cape Coast Stadium did not meet the minimum requirements to host CAF Senior international matches.
“Based on the inspection report, we regret to inform you that the stadium does not meet the set CAF stadium minimum requirements to host CAF Senior international matches. As a result of the stadium's non-approval, CAF has taken the following decision:
“• Formal prohibition is made to use the Cape Coast Stadium in the group stage
phase of the CAF interclub competitions 2023-24 and any other CAF/FIFA men’s
senior national teams competitions.
“• The GFA clubs are requested to select a venue from among the stadiums approved by CAF to host the group stage phase and knockout rounds of the CAF interclub competitions 2023-24,” parts of the CAF letter to the GFA said.
This means Medeama Sporting Club and Dreams Football Club cannot use the Cape Coast Stadium for their group stage matches in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.
