Ghanaian international Bernard Morrison is confident Young Africans can turn things around in the second leg of the CAF Confederations Cup final against USM Alger to annex the title.
The Tanzanian giants were unable to make their home advantage count after suffering defeat to USM Alger in the first leg.
The Algerian side edged Young Africans 2-1 to take first leg advantage in the 2022/23 Confederations Cup.
USM Alger shot into the lead at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Sunday through Aymen Mahious, who found the back of the net in the 32nd minute as the visitors went to recess with a one goal advantage.
After the break, the host fought back to restore parity in the 82nd minute mark through Fiston Mayele but Islam Merili scored to seal victory for USM Alger six minutes to full time.
Speaking to Westgold Radio, the Ghanaian forward expressed his side overturn the result in Algeria to clinch the title on Saturday.
“Things did not go well for us but it is not too late. It is one of those things, USM Alger came into the game with a different strategy knowing we also have good players, so they were cautious”
“Truth be told, they are a good side, good in set-pieces and that paid off for them to score their first goal. After getting the equalizer, we decided to push for the match-winner but only for them to punish us”
“There is hope for us. We will come out with a strategy that will yield positive results for us. It has happened before, Club African came and drew with us but we went there to beat them. We are not discouraged at all, it is football and anything can happen. Although, we were sad with the defeat but we still have confidence”
The reverse fixture will take place at the Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 in Algeria on Saturday, June 3, 2023.
The 29-year-old was signed by Yanga from Simba in July 2022 and has proven to be an efficient addition to the team, helping them win the league title.
He will hope to win complete double with his side by scooping the Confederations Cup this weekend.
