Veteran coach JE Sarpong is advocating for a total overhauling of the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars following their calamitous performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars endured a difficult AFCON tournament after failing to beat Mozambique in the final group game to snatch qualification to the knockout stage.

Ghana has now failed to make it to the knockout stage of the continental showpiece for the second time running having last suffered early elimination in AFCON 2021 held in Cameroon.

The West Africa powerhouse drew two games at the Nations Cup, finishing in third place in Group B, behind Cape Verde and Egypt.

“Seriously speaking we need a total overhaul Black Stars. Let’s be open, don’t take people as your enemies. If someone has the capabilities to help the team, approach that person and seek his or her help. People think if you criticize them then it means you don’t like or you are against them and for that matter you are bringing their brand down. Don’t think you know everything about football, bring people who are good and help you achieve greatness on board and that’s how we build football” he said.

The Black Stars will return to action in March for the FIFA international break and are expected to play World Champions, Argentina in a friendly in Beijing, China.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association on Tuesday announced the sacking of the former Premier League manager Chris Hughton and the entire technical team following the Black Stars poor AFCON 2023 performance in Ivory Coast.
