Asante Kotoko coach Abdul Gazale believes Frederick Asare crucial saves propelled his outfit to beat Aduana Stars on Sunday.

Asare was handed a starting role ahead of national goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim in the week 27 fixture of the Ghana Premier League.

The fire boys opened the scoring through Isaac Mintah who found the back of the net in the early stages of the much-anticipated clash at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Ugandan forward Steven Mukwala levelled the scores before Eric Zeze netted the winner as the Reds returned to winning ways and closed the gap on leaders Aduana Stars.

After the game, Gazale eulogized goalkeeper Frederick Asare as he believes his saves helped the Porcupine Warriors to win the game.

"When you look at Asare's save, it's not even one. The first half he saved one. The second half he had about two saves for us and that is why he is also a goalkeeper in the post. When everything is gone beyond the players, he has to be the last person to save us and he was able to do it. I think I have to give him credit for that and I think he was able to save us from that equalizer." He said.

Asare and Ibrahim Danlad have been rotated in games as the club is yet to decide on their first choice goalkeeper.

The Ghana youth international joined the Kumasi-based outfit at the start of the season after leaving Accra Lions.

Asare has made 12 appearances this season, keeping four clean sheets.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko are now five points behind Aduana Stars as the race for the title intensifies.
