Former King Faisal Football Club defender, Shilla Illiasu, has expressed his admiration for ex-Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan.
He commended him for his remarkable football career representing Ghana. In an interview with Citi Sports, Illiasu shared his thoughts following Gyan's official retirement announcement from professional football.
At the age of 37, Gyan declared that he would be stepping away from the sport after an illustrious 18-year career that commenced with Liberty Professionals in 2003 and concluded after the 2020-2021 season with Legon Cities FC.
Illiasu, who had the opportunity to play alongside Gyan during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, had only words of praise for the former Sunderland AFC and Stade Rennes striker.
He stated, "First of all, he has done his best for the country, and such a personality deserves a lot of commendations... but I understand him.
"At a certain level, when injuries start to set in your career, there are certain levels you can't go... I would have hoped certain coordination would have played for him just to use it to climax his retirement."
