Ghana head coach, Chris Hughton has given justification for his decision to include Andre Ayew in his Black Stars squad for the first round of the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Although the veteran is currently without a club, the gaffer says he believes he is still a very good player and key for the national team.

"Dede Ayew is still a very good player and still somebody that can be the best player in training," Chris Hughton explained in an interview with BBC.

The Black Stars gaffer continued, "He is somebody that has an added importance because he is captain - he is a very good influence to the younger players that are in the squad. And so it's not just about his playing ability, it's for what he means to the squad."

Ghana takes on Madagascar later this month on November 17 but going to Comoros for the second game of the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

There is pressure on coach Chris Hughton to get positive results with talks of a plan to show him the exit door if the Black Stars fail to impress.
