Ghana coach Chris Hughton says his outfit inability to create chances led to their stalemate against Madagascar in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

The Black Stars were held at the Stade Barea Mahamasina in Antananarivo by Madagascar in the penultimate AFCON qualifier on Sunday.

This means Ghana will have to wait until the final game of Group E to seal their qualification to the AFCON next year.

Speaking after the game, Hughton said, The game was tough, just as in every game, there’s no easy game on the continent. We had a lot of possession even in the first half but to change the momentum of the game, you needed to score. Because the longer the game goes when you don’t score, you give Madagascar the encouragement”

“They are playing in front of the home supporters who were cheering them on and they were growing in confidence so at any stage we needed to score to change the feeling of the game”

“We had a lot possession but we didn’t create enough clear chances and when you are unable to do this, it’s very difficult to win games” he said.

Despite the draw, Ghana remain top of the group with 9 points from five games with one more match to go in September against the Central African Republic in Kumasi.
