Former Asante Kotoko coach, Isaac Opeele Boateng, has urged Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to acknowledge accountability for the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Following Ghana's early exit from the tournament at the group phase, where they managed only two points out of a possible nine, there has been mounting pressure on the leadership of the Football Association to issue an unqualified apology to the nation for the team's dismal showing.
Isaac Opeele Boateng believes that Kurt Okraku should shoulder the responsibility for the team's subpar performance, stating his stance on Asempa FM as monitored by Footballghana.com: "It's high time Kurt Okraku takes responsibility for the poor performance of the Black Stars. They are in charge of the game and oversee everything leading up to the AFCON. The team did not perform well, so he must take responsibility. Ghanaians are not happy, and, for me, it is about time the FA comes out, but Kurt Okraku must accept responsibility."
Regarding the potential for the Football Association to issue an apology, Boateng remarked, "As to whether the FA will apologize, it is their own prerogative because during Kwesi Nyantakyi's era, after tournaments, they sometimes apologize and sometimes, they don't. But I am saying the FA must accept responsibility for the poor performance of the team."
The premature exit marks the second consecutive AFCON group phase elimination for the Black Stars.
