Ghana forward Jordan Ayew is eyeing a strong comeback following the Black Stars defeat to Cape Verde in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opener.
The West Africa powerhouse succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde on Sunday night, courtesy goals from Jamiro Monteiro and Garry Rodrigues.
Cape Verde opened the scoring after 17 minutes through Jamiro Monteiro, who easily tapped in a rebound after Richard Ofori parried a long shot before the Black Stars level the pegging through Fenerbache defender Alexander Djiku.
However, comical defending led to Cape Verde scoring a late winner through Garry Rodrigues.
Speaking after the game, the Crystal Palace marksman indicated his outfit has no choice than to bounce back quickly in order to secure qualification to the knockout stage.
“I’m disappointed because I think we had the game in our hands. We always lack concentration of which our moment, scored two sloppy goals. As a team, we need to back up quickly because we can’t always say that it’s a young team. we’ve been together for two years and obviously is a tough night for us”
“We have two more games and we need to stay positive, we know we need to do it in the hard way, we don’t have a choice now so we do it the hard and see the outcome” he said.
With the upcoming crucial match against Egypt on Thursday, the Black Stars face the risk of an early exit, reminiscent of the previous edition of the tournament.
