Tanzania has suspended its head coach, Adel Amrouche, following an eight-match ban from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The suspension comes in the wake of a complaint filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) regarding comments made by Amrouche after their encounter in Group F at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.
Morocco emerged victorious with a 3-0 win, during which Tanzania had Novatus Miroshi sent off.
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) issued a statement announcing Amrouche’s suspension, citing his remarks about “Morocco having influence in Caf, to manipulate the match scheduling and officiating.”
Amrouche had previously criticized the RMFF’s impact on African football before the commencement of the Afcon tournament.
In the interim, Hemed Suleiman Ali has been appointed as the temporary head of the Taifa Stars, with assistance from Juma Mgunda.
The East African team, aiming to advance to the knockout stages for the first time in their third Afcon appearance, is set to face Zambia in their second group game in San Pedro on Sunday at 17:00 GMT.
