Morocco's head coach, Walid Regragui, has been handed a four-match ban by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with two matches suspended.
The decision comes in the aftermath of a heated confrontation between Regragui and former Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba following the 1-1 draw between Morocco and DR Congo on Sunday.
The altercation, which erupted after the full-time whistle, involved players and staff from both nations, lasting for a few minutes before eventually settling.
CAF's disciplinary board found the Moroccan FA (RMFF), the Congolese FA (COD), and coach Regragui guilty on separate charges, leading to the imposed sanctions.
In addition to the suspension, Regragui faces a $5,000 fine. The Moroccan FA (RMFF) has expressed its disagreement with the decision and announced its intention to appeal, asserting that the ban is unjust.
Regragui has already missed Morocco's final Group E clash against Zambia, and unless the appeal succeeds, he will also be absent from their last 16 game.
This incident adds to the list of suspensions at the ongoing AFCON, as earlier in the tournament, Tanzania manager Adel Amrouche received an eight-match ban for comments and allegations against the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). Tanzania subsequently suspended Amrouche and replaced him for the remainder of the competition.
