Wisdom Kobena Woyome, a ranking member of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Parliamentary Select Committee, has expressed concern over the alleged stranded situation of traditional supporters union groups in Cote D’Ivoire, as reported in the wake of poor conditions faced by Ghanaians supporting the Black Stars at the 2023 AFCON.
In an interview with Citi News, Woyome voiced worry about the reported struggles of over 300 supporters in Abidjan, facing challenges accessing food, water, and proper accommodation during the tournament.
The MP for South Tongu highlighted his concerns, stating, “I am particularly worried when I heard that the traditional team of supporters who will always travel with the team across the globe, the main supporters union, are also, as we speak, part of the people that are stranded.
“Well, I deem it speculative for now but I will be there to get all the details.”
Ghana opened its Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a shock 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde after conceding late in the game.
The Island nation took the lead after 17 minutes through Jamiro Monteiro before Ghana equalled the score through Alexander Djiku.
Garry Rodrigues netted a stoppage time winner for Cape Verde to break Ghanaian hearts.
As Ghana looks to recover from their 1-2 loss to Cape Verde, they are scheduled to face Egypt on Thursday, January 28, at 20:00 GMT.
