Ghana leader Nana Akufo-Addo believes the Black Stars are well conditioned to battle Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique in Group B of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The West African powerhouse will be competing for the covetous trophy that has eluded the country for over three decades in neighbouring country, Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars will open their account against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024 before taking on Egypt and Mozambique on January 18 and 22 respectively in Group B.

At a farewell dinner on Tuesday night, the President expressed the team can emerge out of their group at the tournament.

“Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique are teams that we have beaten before and I’m confident we will emerge out of the group. There will be no repeat of events in AFCON 2021in Cameroon” he said.

The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, January 13 through to February 11, 2024.

The Black Stars arrived in Ivory Coast on Wednesday ahead of the start of the tournament this weekend.

Ghana have a history of success in the AFCON, having won the title four times, most recently in 1982. However, they have experienced defeat in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, as well as a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.
