Egyptian football legend Hany Ramzy has expressed his views on the tournament, taking particular aim at the perceived strength of the Ghanaian squad.
Ramzy dismissed the notion that Ghana poses a formidable threat. His comments come after closely observing Ghana's match against Cape Verde, where, according to Ramzy, the team failed to strike fear into opponents.
While Egypt had their own struggles against Mozambique, relinquishing a lead within the first few minutes, Ramzy's criticism extends beyond the pitch. The former Pharaohs player did not shy away from criticizing Rui Vitoria, the head coach, following the disappointing draw.
Despite taking an early lead through Mostafa Mohamed, Egypt found themselves trailing as Mozambique capitalized on defensive lapses. It wasn't until a late penalty, expertly dispatched by Mohamed Salah, that Egypt managed to salvage a point.
“The performance was a surprise to me because I expected us to win with a goal difference, but the football map has changed in the African continent," he said.
“Ghana lost to Cape Verde. The African continent has undergone significant changes unlike the past period, but the Mozambique match was within reach. We scored in the first two minutes, but in the second half, I was disappointed with the performance.
“In my opinion, Vitoria should have started with Marwan Ateya, Ahmed Zizo, and Emam Ashour in midfield, and the coach should have returned Mohamed Salah to his position.
“I did not feel Ahmed Hassan Koka when he participated; all the crosses were in favor of Mozambique.
“I believe that this perspective must be the starting point for Egypt against Ghana. I watched Ghana, and it is not a terrifying team.
“But their loss today will make them fierce because it’s their last chance. However, if we are in our condition and they are in their condition, we will excel,”
