Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori is unhappy with his teammates in the event that led to Cape Verde's opening goal in the much-anticipated clash on Sunday night.

The Black Stars suffered an early setback to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following defeat to Cape Verde.

The West Africa powerhouse succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde, courtesy goals from Jamiro Monteiro and Garry Rodrigues.

Cape Verde opened the scoring after 17 minutes through Monteiro, who easily tapped in a rebound after Richard Ofori parried a long shot before the Black Stars level the pegging through Fenerbache defender Alexander Djiku.

However, comical defending led to Cape Verde scoring a late winner through Garry Rodrigues.

“The ball was bouncing in front of me and also far away from me, so I needed to punch it wide, and unfortunately, my players were not there to block," Ofori explained.

Despite the setback, Ofori remains optimistic about Ghana's chances in the tournament. "It happens in a game, and we need to focus and concentrate on the second game. That's the most important thing," he said.

The Black Stars now find themselves in a challenging position in Group following the defeat. They are currently bottom on the table without a point.

The West Africa powerhouse will face Egypt on Thursday in their second group B clash.
