Ghana forward Jordan Ayew has expressed his disappointment following the defeat of the Black Stars by Cape Verde on Sunday.
The late goal left the Black Stars without a win once again at the start of a tournament, marking their third consecutive Africa Cup of Nations without an opening victory.
Ghana finds themselves in a challenging position, needing a win in their next match against seven-time champions Egypt to revive their campaign.
Cape Verde opened the scoring after 17 minutes through Jamiro Monteiro, who easily tapped in a rebound after Richard Ofori parried a long shot before the Black Stars level the pegging through Fenerbache defender Alexander Djiku.
However, comical defending led to Cape Verde scoring a late winner through Garry Rodrigues.
“I’m disappointed because I think we had the game in our hands. We always lack concentration of which our moment, scored two sloppy goals. As a team, we need to back up quickly because we can’t always say that it’s a young team. we’ve been together for two years and obviously is a tough night for us”
“We have two more games and we need to stay positive, we know we need to do it in the hard way, we don’t have a choice now so we do it the hard and see the outcome” he said.
With the upcoming crucial match against Egypt on Thursday, the Black Stars face the risk of an early exit, reminiscent of the previous edition of the tournament.
